The most common symptoms of ADHD in children include attentional problems,  hyperactivity, and impulsivity. A child with ADHD cannot sit still and keeps on fidgeting and feels the need to walk or run around. Most often, the symptoms of inattention are not noticed until the child enters school. A child with ADHD finds it difficult to pay attention to details and tends to make mistakes due to carelessness. Happiness

smileyYou may not know it, but happiness is good for your physical health. Happiness is, in fact, one of the most important factors that will help keep you healthy. Studies have shown that happiness helps lower the risk of developing many physical illnesses. A  study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences revealed that “positive affective states are related to favorable profiles of functioning in several biological systems and may thereby be relevant to risk of development of physical illness.” In simple terms: happiness is good for your health.

But how do we achieve happiness? Happiness is quite illusive because most of us connect it with things that make us feel contented and satisfied.  The problem is that in most cases the things that make us feel contented and satisfied are things that are not yet in our hands. Most of us may connect happiness with a promotion to a higher position, with an increase in salary, or with finally having one’s dream car. But do these things really make us happy? You may find that when you finally get that promotion, or that raise in salary, or that dream car, you are still not that happy enough because new goals are automatically set. We keep chasing things that we believe can make us happy, which is why happiness is illusive.

The only way to be truly happy is to change your view of happiness. There are people who have almost nothing, but they are happy and healthy. What is their secret? They just know that happiness is a state of mind. If you learn to focus more on the positive things that happen to your life and not on the negative ones, happiness will be easier to achieve. Of course, it is easier said than done because most of us are conditioned to think that when something is lacking happiness is missing.

Choosing to be happy is the first step to happiness. When you choose to be happy you make that shift into a mind-set that is focused at seeing more of what you have than what you don’t have. When you learn how to do this you will feel happier and healthier.

How to Lose Weight After Pregnancy

During pregnancy a lot of things happen to a woman’s body, and one of those things is a gain in weight. Some women gain so much weight during pregnancy that they cannot get back to their pre-pregnancy shape easily, and they end up wondering why most celebrity moms get back into shape in a very short time. We must remember that celebrities have platoons of dietitians and fitness experts to help them get back into shape after pregnancy, so it is not really surprising to see them return to their pre-pregnancy shape quickly. But that doesn’t mean that if you cannot afford to hire dietitians and fitness experts you do not have the chance to be sexy again after pregnancy. There are things that you can do to help you regain your figure after pregnancy.

Avoid foods and beverages with lots of sugar (like cola and artificial fruit juice). Sugar has a lot of calories, so you should limit it as much as possible. Eat healthy foods like whole grains, lean meat, and vegetables. When you have snacks, avoid processed foods; you can have fruits or wheat crackers instead. Drink a lot of water every day, 8 to 12 glasses of water daily will help you cut fat from your body.

You also must exercise, but start with light exercise first like short walks in the morning. Do not exercise immediately after you give birth, there needs to be a time of healing and rest before you begin an exercise regimen. It is best to talk to your doctor about when and what kind of exercise that you can have.

Another thing that will help you burn calories and lose weight is breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is not only good for your baby, it is also good for you. Did you know that you can burn 500 calories per day if you breastfeed? Not only that, breastfeeding also helps you lower your stress level.

Women are not created equally, so do not fret when you see other women lose weight more quickly. Just continue to exercise and eat healthy foods, you’ll be sure to get your sexy, pre-pregnancy figure back in due time.

Is Red Meat that Bad for Your Health?

We all know that a vegetarian diet is associated with better health and longer life, whereas a diet with lots of meat, especially red meat, is linked to shorter lifespans and diseases like cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases.

Is red meat really that bad for your health? The truth is that there are really no studies done that will prove that consumption of red meat directly causes the diseases mentioned above. Results of studies just seem to suggest that red meat consumption may contribute to the likelihood of acquiring diseases.

So, what is in red meat that makes it look bad? Red meat contains a lot of heme iron, which is quite different from the kind of iron that is found in plants. The strongly absorbed iron content of red meat is linked to the increased risk of diabetes. Red meat also contains saturated fat, which is thought to cause different forms of cancer. Grilled red meat also produces carcinogens.

But meat has been part of the human diet for thousands of years. If the human race has lived with it for thousands of years, probably it is not as bad as how it is made to appear in some studies. Red meat is a good source of phosphorus, protein, iron, zinc, selenium, magnesium, and B vitamins, especially B1, B3, B6, and B12. Vitamins and minerals in red meat also are absorbed easily by the body. Although red meat contains carcinogens, it also has conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA, which helps reduce the risk of cancer. Our body also needs important nutrients that only can be sourced from meat. As to the cholesterol and saturated fat in red meat, it could be good for our health because our bodies need some cholesterol and saturated fat. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Composition Handbook states that every day a body needs 1,500 to 2,000 mg of cholesterol and 8.7 grams of fat, which we can get from 3 ounces of red meat.

I guess the bottom line here is that red meat is not harmful if it is part of a balanced diet. Moderate amounts of red meat in your diet are not bad for your health. Just do not consume it in excess because it will surely be bad for you.
