Bulimia Nervosa is a debilitating disease that has been recognized by the American Psychiatric Association.  However, one of the side effects of this disease, excessive exercise, can be a disease in and of itself.  To learn more, visit our sister site, My Fitness Tunes.

Natural Remedies for Hair Loss

Hair loss is a problem that can affect men, women, and children alike. There are many reasons why hair loss occurs. In most cases, it is the result of heredity, medications, or a certain health conditions. It is normal to shed some amounts of hair every day because this is all part of growing new hairs, but you should be concerned once you experience excessive hair loss because it can result in baldness.

There are a lot of treatments available for hair loss in the market today. It would be a good idea to seek natural remedies first, if your condition is still at its early stages, though. Natural remedies can be effective in restoring hair without the side effects of medications. Here are some natural remedies for hair loss:

Massage your scalp with uncooked egg yolk. Leave it on your scalp for about an hour before rinsing.

Soak fenugreek in a hot pot of water throughout nighttime. When you wake up, massage this liquid into your scalp and wrap it with cloth. Leave it there for 2-3 hours; repeat this procedure everyday for a month for best results.

Rub olive oil on the scalp daily to reduce hair loss

Boil one cup of water and add one teaspoon of mustard seed. Cook the mixture for five minutes before letting it become cool enough to drink.

Smear castor oil on the hair roots, but be careful not to put too much on the hair. Wrap your hair in a newspaper and leave overnight before rinsing in the morning.

Mix two tablespoon of rosemary oil and olive oil. Add the juice of one lemon and one egg yolk. Then apply to the hair roots for about 30 minutes before rinsing.

Boil some rosemary leaves, strain, and then store the liquid in a glass bottle. Use this liquid to wash your hair daily. You also can put this liquid into a sprayer, so you can use it every morning on your hair.

Back To School Wellness

Kids are going back to school this week, and that means the germs will be spreading. You don’t have to spend the first few weeks nursing summer colds, however. Prevention is the key!

  • Wash your hands. You’ve heard it before, and you’ll hear it again. The single most effective way to prevent the spread of germs is to wash your hands. Antibacterial soap isn’t necessary; it’s the mechanical action of the scrubbing along with the surfactants in soap that rinse the germs down the drain.
  • Sanitize. Most back to school supply lists now require hand sanitizer for classroom use. Small bottles on key chains or clips are a great idea for attaching to backpacks and lunchboxes, as well. Get everyone in the habit of rubbing some on before they eat, and when they get on and off the school bus.
  • Cover Your Mouth. Coughing and sneezing spray millions of viruses and bacteria into the air, and anyone nearby will be inhaling germ soup. Love thy neighbor, and keep the snot to yourself.
  • But Not With Your Hands. Teach your children not to cough on their hands, and you will drastically minimize the germ spreading in your home. They can cough into their elbows or inner arms, in order to cover their mouths.
  • Go herbal. There is evidence that herbs such as Echinacea can enhance immune system response, if taken for short periods. Garlic is also reported to prevent illness, and Vitamin C and zinc are well known helps for shortening sickness.
  • Get to the pharmacy. Nowadays, there are many over the counter preventatives and cures. Airborne isn’t just for plane trips and can keep you well when everyone else is sick; you might check out the stock of cough drops while you’re at it!

The Master Cleanse

The purpose of The Master Cleanse is not to lose weight, it is to detox your body.

It was created by Stanley Burroughs in 1941, and it is a detoxification program that helps to remove the unneeded and harmful toxins in your body. However, because your diet is changed and you really aren’t taking in excess calories, you do lose weight. Another “perk” of the Master Cleanse is that it is said to be a cure for ulcers.

Doing the Master Cleanse is not easy. The directions and the steps you are supposed to follow are simple to understand, but you need to have the motivation. There are three phases to the diet: Ease-in, The Master Cleanse, Ease-out. Some people skip the first phase, but it makes the process a lot easier if you do it.

I won’t go into the complete details of every phase, but just give an overview. I’ll leave the details to the actual site. During the first phase, you remove all processed foods and meats. You start by only eating fruits and vegetables, then you eat them in liquid form, and then you get rid of them all together. This phase prepares your body and mind for less solid and liquid foods. The whole way through, you drink freshly squeezed organic lemon water.

Then, you start drinking your “meal” for the whole day. The mixture is made up of lemon juice, water, maple syrup (for calorific needs), and cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper makes the whole thing taste terrible, so only put in as much as you can handle. This is all you eat and drink for X amount of days. There are other steps involved such as the “flushing” of your system, but like I said before, let the actual site tell you what to do.

The last stage is the most important part. It is like the first stage, but in reverse. This is extremely important to let your body ease into a normal diet. You can become nauseated if you start to eat too soon.

Most people do this whole process (usually 10 days long) once a year. It has many success stories.

In addition to a master cleanse, many people look for safety in wearing a bullet proof vest.

If you’re sick…

We all try our best to be careful about germs. We wash our hands, cover our coughs, and don’t share our drinks, but those gosh-darned germs always seem to find a way in, don’t they? It really is a pain, but once you’re sick, there’s no convenient ctrl-z to zap your health back to normal. I decided to write out a couple what-to-do’s for the basic ailments. If your conditions seem worse than a “normal” sickness, you’ll need a better reference.

Do you or does your child have nosebleed? Don’t lie down; sit up or stand. Contrary to popular response, don’t tilt your head back; it will cause the blood to run down your throat. You should breathe through the mouth and hold pressure on the soft part of the nose for at least 10 minutes (you might want to time this). If it still hasn’t stopped, repeat the process. If after 20 minutes the bleeding continues, it might be wise to contact a doctor.

Sick to your stomach? Drinking soda or juice could make you feel worse, but sips of water may be helpful. Make sure to sit up or stand while drinking to make it easier to take in the water. You don’t want to drink a lot of water because it will only give you more to vomit.

While browsing to verify my suggestions, I came across a great site KidsHealth.Org. This site can be used by kids, teens, or parents. Based on what I read, I can tell that it’d be a great site to use to explain some health issues to a child, or maybe even let them learn about the issues on his or her own. It puts into simple terms the things that might’ve seemed complicated or difficult to explain to a child.
